Danta-Mūla Roga




(i). दन्तपुप्पुटक

Dantapupputaka (Gum Boil)


A boil which appears at the root of the teeth causing intense inflammation is known as Dantappuṭaka.

Treatment

Compound Preparations


1. Triphalā Guggulu: 4 to 8 g. to be taken with warm water twice a day.

External Applications


1. Mix equal parts of Pañca Lavaṇa and Yavakṣāra with honey and apply on the boil and then rub.

(ii). दन्तवेष्ट

Dantaveṣṭa (Pyorrhoea)


In this disease discharge of pus and blood occur from the root of the teeth, thereby infecting the alveolar tissue leading to looseness of the teeth and foul smelling.

Treatment

External Applications


Any of the following applications may be applied on the gum.

1. Mouth wash of equal parts of Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), Sarṣapa (mustard seed) and Triphalā in water.

2. Mouth wash with decoction of Valkala (barks) of Pañcakṣīrī with honey, ghee and Śarkarā (raw sugar).

3. Apply with honey the powder of equal parts of Lodhra, wood of Rakta Candana (red sandal), root of Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and Lākṣā (lac) or the Taila Siddha with theses drugs.

4. Apply a Taila Siddha with Lodhra, wood of Khadira (khair), roots of Mañjiṣṭhā (madder) and Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza).

5. Lepa (plaster) of Lodhra, root of Mustaka (motha) and Rasāñjana in honey.

6. Retain decoction of fruit of Pippalī (long pepper), honey, ghee in mouth.

7. Massage gums with Saindhava (rock-salt).

(iii). शौषिर

Sauṣira (Gingivitis)


Sauṣira is a disease characterized by the inflammation and pain of the gums and excessive salivation.

Treatment


1. Mouth wash (Kavala) with the decoction of Valkala (bark) of Pañcakṣīri.
