The acts like lifting the heavy load, falling from uneven height, fighting with strong man or animal, excessive indulgence in sex, taking of unnourished diet etc. may cause ulcerative lesion in the chest and this severe condition is known as Uraḥ-Kṣata.

Signs and Symptoms


Acute pain in the chest, cough with expectoration having tinge of blood, fever, gradual loss of vitality, strength, complexion, appetite and digestive power, emaciation and loose motions are the main signs and symptoms of Uraḥ-Kṣata. Sometimes the patient may pass large quantity of bright red blood with a bout of cough and in the case a specialist should immediately be consulted.

Treatment

Single Drugs


1. Svarasa (juice) of fresh leaf of Vāsā 7 to 14 ml. is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

2. Powder of Śuddha Lākṣā (purified lac) – 1 g. is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey or 100 to 250 ml milk or 14 ml. Madya (wine), twice a day.

3. Powdered leaf of Vāsā-1 to 3 gm is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. money, twice a day

Simple Preparations


1. Flour of Yava (barley) – 100 g. and ghee – 100 g. boiled in 250 ml. milk is to be taken twice a day.

2. Saktu of Yava – 100g., Śarkarā (raw sugar) 50g. and honey- 50 g. is to be taken with 250ml. milk, twice a day.

3. Powders of equal part of roots of Balā (country mallow), Aśvagandhā (winter cherry), Śatāvarī (wild asparagus) and Punarnavā (pigweed) and fruit of Gambhārī – 1 to 3 g. is to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

4. Powder of equal part of flower of Madhūka (madhuca), root of Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and Drākṣā (raisin) mixed with the double quantity of powder of Śuddha Lākṣā (purified lac), fruit of Karkaṭaśṛṅgī (crab’s claw), root of Śatāvarī (wild asparagus), and Vanśalocana (bamboo manna) is to be taken with 3 – 6 g. dose with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

5. Dugdha (milk) Siddha with 12 to 24 g. powder of equal part of Kāśa, Kamala Keśara (lotus stamen) and Rakta Candana (red sandalwood) is to be taken with 4 to 6 gm. honey twice a day.

6. Take powdered root of Punarnavā (pig-weed) – 1 to 3 g. and Taṇḍula 24 g. boil it in the juice of Drākṣā (grapes) and 100 to 200 ml of milk. It is to be taken twice a day.

Compound Preparations


1. Sitopalādi cūrṇa: 1 to 3 g. is to be taken with honey twice a day.

2. Elādi Vaṭī: 1 Vaṭī is to be sucked 4 to 6 times a day.

3. Drākṣāsava: 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day after adding equal quantity of water after meal.

4. Kuṣmāṇḍāvaleha: 12 to 24 g. is to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

5. Vāsāvaleha: 12 to 24 g. is to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

6. Drākṣāriṣṭa: 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day with equal quantity of water, after meal.

7. Treatment prescribed for Rājayakṣmā may also be given to the patient of Uraḥ-kṣata.

Pathya


Godhūma (Wheat), Mudga (phaseoles bean), Śāli variety of rice, Yava (barley seeds), goat’s milk, cow’s milk, ghee; meat soup prepared from the meat of goat or deer; Drākṣā (raisin or grape) and fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelic myrobalen) are the useful articles of diet for the patients of Kāsa and Uraḥ-Kṣata.

Apathya


Fruits of Bilva (bael), Vārtākī (brinjal), Kāravellaka (bitter gourd), Rājikā (red mustard) food prepared in oil are harmful for the patient of Kāsa and Uraḥ-Kṣata. Sexual intercourse, day sleep and anger should also be avoided.
