It is the disease caused by the excessive formation of acid in the stomach and due to which patient feels burning sensation in the throat and heart area.

Signs and Symptoms


Bitter or acidic eructation, burning sensation in throat and heart area, nausea, loss of appetite, indigestion, prostration and heaviness in the body are the main signs and symptoms of Amlapitta.

Treatment

Single Drugs


1. Water obtained from the green fruit of Nārikelā (coconut) – 100 to 500 ml., to be taken twice a day.

2. Powdered fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelic myrobalan) – 3 to 6 g., to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

Simple Preparations


1. Mix Lājāsaktu, Śarkarā (raw sugar) and honey in equal quantity. Its 100 to 200 g. is to be taken twice a day.

3. Take powdered fruit rind of Harītakī (chebulic myrobalan) and whole plant of Bhṛṅgarāja in equal quantity. Its 3 to 6 g. is to be taken 12 g. of Guḍa (jaggery) and warm water twice a day.

4. Take dried rhizome of Haridrā (turmeric), leaf of Paṭola and fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelie myrobalan) in equal parts and make the powder. Its 3 to 6 g. is to be taken with the fresh juice of Ārdraka (ginger) and 30 drops of papaya latex twice a day.

5. Prepare decoction from the equal parts of stem of Guḍūcī, fruit of Nimba, leaf of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber) and Triphalā. Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day.

6. Prepare decoction of equal parts of Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), fruit of Dhānyaka (coriander) and leaf of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day.

7. Prepare decoction of equal parts of leaves of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber) and Vāsā (vasaka), Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), stem of Guḍūcī and rhizome of Kaṭukī. Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

Compound Preparations


1. Avipattikara Cūrṇa: 3 to 6 g. is to be taken with 50 ml. warm water twice a day.

2. Daśāṅga Kvātha: 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

3. Dhātri Loha: 500 mg. to 1 g. is to be taken with sufficient ghee to make a paste, twice a day.

4. Kāmadudhā Rasa: 250 to 500 mg. is to be taken with sufficient honey to make a paste twice a day.

5. Līlāvilāsa Rasa: 60 to 250 mg. is to be taken with sufficient honey to make a paste twice a day.

6. Sūtaśekhara Rasa: 250 to 500 mg. is to be taken with sufficient honey to make a paste twice a day.

7. Śaṅkha Bhasma: 250 to 500 mg. is to be taken with sufficient honey to make a paste twice a day.

8. Kṣāra-Rāja: 1 to 2 g. is to be taken with 5 to 10 ml. fresh juice of Nimbū (lemon) and 6 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) twice a day.

9. Nārikelā Khaṇḍa: 6 to 12 g. is to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

Pathya


It is better to keep the patient on milk diet for sometime. Other beneficial articles for the patients of Amlapitta are old rice of Śāli variety, Godhūma (wheat), Yava (barley), Mudga (pahseolus bean), Saktu, Śarkarā (raw sugar); honey, milk, cold water; fruits of Kāravellaka (bitter gourd), Kadalī (banana), Kapittha (wood apple), Dāḍima (pomegranate) and Āmalakī (embelic myrobalan); fruit and leaf of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber), leaf of Vāstuka (a variety of chenopodium), and Vetasa Śuga (roots of cane).

Apathya


Guru and amla Dravya, Navīna Anna (newly harvested cereals), incompatible items of food; seeds of Tila (seasame), Māṣa (black phaseolus bean) and Kulattha (a kind of pulse); items prepared in oil; curd, goat’s milk, and Madya (wine) are harmful for the patient of Amlapitta.
