Abdominal pain having definite relation with meal is due to Āmāśaya Vraṇa (peptic ulcer). Depending upon the site of ulcer, it is of two types viz. Annadrava Śūla (gastric ulcer) and Pariṇāma Śūla (duodenal ulcer) | ||
Signs and Symptoms
1. Annadrava Śūla (Gastric ulcer): This type of abdominal pain occurs due to the ulcer in the stomach. In this disease patient may have pain immediately after taking the meal or during the digestion and the pain is not relieved after taking Pathya, Apathya or meal but the pain may be relieved by vomiting. | ||
Treatment In this disease patient may vomit blood and in that case patient should be hospitalized immediately. | ||
Single Drugs
1. Fluid obtained from the green fruit of Nārikela (coconut) – 100 to 500 ml. is to be taken three times a day. | ||
Compound Preparations
1. Śūlavajraṇi Vaṭī: 1 to 2 pills, to be taken 10 g. honey or 50 ml. warm water to relieve the pain when it is intolerable. | ||
Pathya It is better to keep the patient on milk diet. Unfried preparations of Godhūma (wheat), milk and casein products, banana, small and repeated liquid meals are the useful articles of diet for the patients of Āmāśaya Vraṇa. | ||
Apathya Dravya having Amla, Kaṭu and Lavaṇa Rasa, fried and spicy food, spirituous liquor, rice and Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger) are harmful for the patients of Āmāśaya Vraṇa. Sitting up at night, exposure to sun, excessive intercourse, suppression of natural urges, grief and anger should be avoided. |
Signs and Symptoms High fever with rigors, pain in the chest and sides, frequent cough with thick tenacious phlegm, difficult and increased breathing, bloating of nostrils during breathing, soft, heavy and rapid pulse having ratio of 2:1 with breathing, sweating of the forehead, extremely moist body, lassitude, weakness, rough and dirty tongue, torpor, delirium, etc. are the signs and symptoms of Śvasanaka Jvara. | ||
Treatment Extreme rapid pulse and breathing are forewarning of crisis and in that case patient should immediately be shifted to hospital. | ||
Simple Preparations 1. Decoction of equal part of whole plants of Bṛhat-Kaṇtakārī and Yavāsā (camel’s thorn), root of Puṣkara (costus), Bhāraṅgī, rhizome of Śaṭī (zedoary), fruit of Karkaṭaśṛṅgī (crab’ claw), Indrayava (kurchi seed), leaf of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber), and rhizome of Kaṭukī is to be taken three times a day. | ||
Compound Preparations
1. Gorocanādi Vaṭī: 1 to 2 Vaṭī, to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey one hour before meal two times a day. |
