Aśmarī is a disease caused by the formation or lodging of a stone in the urinary passage. It is also called Mūtraśmarī.

Signs and Symptoms


Severe Abdominal pain in the umbilical or urinary bladder region referred to perineal raphe or penis, obstruction to urinary flow due to to which patient passes urine drop by drop with difficulty, effort to urinate causes intense pain, the pain is aggravated by running, jumping, riding and walking long distance, and blood in the urine are the main signs and symptoms of Mūtrāśmarī.

Treatment

Single Drugs


1. Powdered seed of Kulattha (dolichos bean) – 40 to 80 g., to be taken twice a day.

2. Powdered fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops) – 4 g., to be taken with sufficient honey to make a paste followed by 250 ml. cow’s milk or sheep’s milk twice a day.

3. Flowers of Nārikela (coconut) – 12 g. bruised in water, to be taken with 0.5 g. Yavakṣāra twice a day.

Simple Preparations


1. Decoction prepared from the fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelic myrobalan) – 14 to 28 ml., to be taken with 25 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.

2. Decoction prepared from the seed of Kulattha (dolichos bean) – 14 to 28 ml., to be taken thrice a day.

3. Prepare decoction from 12 g. bark of Varuṇa, 2 g. Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger) and 6 g. fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 0.5 g. yavakṣāra and 25 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.

4. Prepare decoction from equal part of bark of Varuṇa, rhizome of Pāṣāṇa Bheda (saxifraga), Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger) and fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 0.5 g. Yavakṣāra twice a day.

5. Prepare decoction from the equal part of Elā (cardamom), roots of Pippalī (long pepper) and Madhuyaṣṭi (glycyrrhiza), bark of Śigru (horse-radish), leaf of Vāsā (vasaka), rhizome of Pāṣāṇabheda (saxifrage), seed of Reṇuka, fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops) and root bark of Eraṇḍa (caster). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 g. Śuddha Śilājatu, 25 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) and 14 g. honey twice a day.

6. Prepare decoction from the equal part of roots of Kuśa (sacred grass), Ikṣu (sugarcana), Kāṣa, Sara and Darbha, seed of Kulattha (dolichos bean), bark of Varuṇa and fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 25 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) and 0.5 g. Yavakṣāra twice a day.

7. Decoction prepared from the equal part of fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops), Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), leaf of Eraṇḍa (castor), bark of Varuṇa is to be taken in 14 to 28 ml. dose twice a day.

Compound Preparations


1. Bṛhat Varuṇādi Kvātha: 14 to 28 ml., to be taken with 0.5 g. of Yavakṣāra twice a day.

2. Candraprabhā Vaṭī: 1 to 2 pills, to be taken with water twice a day.

3. Gokṣurādi Guggulu: 1 to 2 pills, to be taken with water twice a day.

Pathya


Old Śāli variety of rice, seed of Kulattha (dolichos bean), Ārdraka (ginger), fruit of Kūṣmāṇḍa and leaves of Śālaparṇi and Varuṇa are the useful articles of diet for the patient suffering from the urinary stone (Mūtrāśmarī).

Apathya


Incompatible, acidic, constipative and Guru items of food and drink should be eliminated from the diet. Avoid suppression of natural calls like urination.
